COVID-19 is putting a strain on the US health care system as it struggles to keep up with the rapidly rising numbers of confirmed cases. President Trump during a White House briefing mentioned a drug that would “treat” the coronavirus leading people around the world to buy it and fall ill from undiagnosed usage. But what does this have to do with my past blog posts? This blog post will review my previous post examining how my writing has changed, how I have grown personally from this assignment and where I want it to go from here.
The topics I have covered thus far have been basic, even being building blocks for blogs later on. For my readers, and for myself, I decided to start my blog going over the basic topics such as “Who makes health care?” “Medicare versus Medicaid,” etc. After rereading them I found that I was better able to formulate my thoughts each week. One of the main challenges this assignment has presented is the difficulty to come up with a new topic every week. My writing has advanced as the weeks go on but, before the Coronavirus, deciding on a new topic every week was my biggest struggle. However, once I had a topic finding the words came pretty easily. The last two blogs on the Presidential Candidates health care plans showed that my writing had improved since the first blog. This is part of how I’ve changed personally from this assignment.
At the beginning of my first post I was stumped as I tried to write on a new subject I had just started reading about. Coming from a family of professional health care workers, I knew the basic information about health care, but I had never explored the governmental side. With each blog I gained more information about the different processes of formulating health care, the differences between health care plans (Medicare v. Medicaid), and how health care could change in the future (Presidential Candidates). Living through a pandemic can be scary but my past research of this blogging assignment has expanded my health care vocabulary and I am now able to follow along with the different dialogs used by officials.
Moving forward, after this audit, I want to cover bigger, challenging subjects, such as the outbreak of COVID-19 in the US and how health officials are handling the situation. I want to move past the basic topics and further expand my knowledge, as well as the readers knowledge, on health care issues that plague Americans. These topics could include the FDA’s influence on public access to drugs, and their cost, as well as the CDC’s outlook on possible policies for sickness outbreaks. As my writings and blog topics have shown that can grow, my future hope is that this will continue.
