Last week’s blog was about examining President Trump’s impact on healthcare policy during his time in office. The other Presidential Candidates were briefly mentioned, but this week the blog will be spent fully examining three out of five, still in the race, policies on health care. First, I will begin Joe Biden before examining Elizabeth Warren and then Tulsi Gabbard’s policies.
Joe Biden, was President Obama’s Vice President for the eight years while he was in office and during that time Obama signed into law the Affordable Care Act. This would help people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to have healthcare get access to it. On Biden’s website it states that he would protect the Affordable Care Act and build onto it. Giving four points as to how his administration would do that starting with “Give every American access to affordable health insurance.” Under each main topic are bullet points going in depth to explain why this subject is important and how he will provide this service. The other three topics are: “Provide the peace of mind of affordable, quality healthcare and a less complex health care system, stand up to abuse of power by prescription drug corporations, Ensure health care is a right for all, not a privilege for just a few.”
“Fix Our Broken Health Care System” is the heading on Elizabeth Warren’s website that gives you all the options to see her healthcare “plans.” She covers topics from maternity leave to economy and coronavirus. Warren’s website covers a wide variety of healthcare topics, whereas Biden’s was mainly focused on Obamacare. However, off to the side, in bold is a box to click on to read about Warren’s Medicare for All program. Clicking on the box brings up a series of questions before giving results as to how Warren’s Medicare for All policy could benefit you. Before running for office Elizabeth Warren worked mainly with economics and her policies reflect that. “Full cost of health care,” it states including words such as “only” and “Democratic” to describe how her plan is the best. At the start of this race there were six women, now there are only two, it will be interesting to see if Gabbard’s policy or plans focus on Medicare, and Maternity such as Warren’s did. Or if they will be more like Biden’s plans, straight forward on one subject.
It’s hard not to immediately compare and contrast the candidates’ healthcare policy plans to each other but when going to the different websites for this blog I found myself doing exactly that. The last person whose plan I will be looking at is Tulsi Gabbard. Her healthcare policy is a short page on her website focusing on healthcare for all. There are two YouTube videos, one made by her and the other is a CNN clip, where she is talking about healthcare for all. One main point she makes is that she will cut military spending and give the money to other policy areas such as healthcare. As I said in the beginning of this paragraph, that it is hard not to compare the candidate’s policies to the other but looking at Gabbard’s it is not as extensive as Joe Biden’s or Elizabeth Warren’s were. Biden had a few pages of healthcare policy plans, and Warren had multiple sections for the different topics whereas Gabbard only has one page that doesn’t really go in depth at all. It is interesting because the topic Biden covers is very similar to Gabbard’s healthcare plans. Warren who, like I said, covers a lot of topics stands out amongst the three candidates which makes me wonder what the other Candidates will focus on but that is next week’s blog.
